Why I Built a Marketing Studio Rooted in Art, Psychology, and Heart

Introduction

Some stories start with a business plan.
Mine started with survival.

Years ago, I was leading major communications efforts, teaching at a university, and helping brands find their voice. But behind the scenes, I was navigating something far more personal — and it changed everything about how I do this work.

The Life That Shaped My Brand

My first daughter was born at just 26 weeks. She’s now a vibrant force of nature with cerebral palsy and four learning disabilities. She has taught me more about perseverance, clarity, and what it really means to communicate than any classroom or boardroom ever could.

Then came heartbreak — three pregnancy losses, including twin boys. Our journey to grow our family led us to a fertility clinic, and in April 2020, just as the world shut down, we brought home our second daughter.

We were suddenly raising a newborn and a 5-year-old with complex needs… at the beginning of a pandemic.

Everything I knew about communication — from branding to relationships to self-advocacy — was tested. And it sharpened what I now believe to be true about marketing:

People don’t connect with polish.
They connect with truth.

The Birth of Electric Blue Communications

Out of that chaos came a calling. I didn’t want to just return to corporate communications or manage marketing campaigns on autopilot.

I wanted to help others — especially small to mid-size businesses and nonprofits — tell their stories in a way that honors both mission and message.

So I launched Electric Blue Communications, a studio built on three pillars:

  • 🎨 Art – because beautiful things move people

  • 🧠 Psychology – because understanding your audience is everything

  • 💙 Heart – because trust is the real currency of connection

We don’t believe in cookie-cutter solutions or empty buzzwords. We believe in building bold brands that feel as real on the inside as they look on the outside.

What This Means for You

If you’re reading this, you might be a nonprofit leader who’s tired of struggling to explain your impact. Or a founder who knows your brand is “fine,” but not unforgettable. Or a small team stretched thin and looking for strategic guidance with heart.

You’re why I do this.

Because I know what it’s like to need clarity in the chaos.
And I know how powerful it is to feel seen — and to help others feel seen too.
